History of Grandview Assistance Program
The Grandview Assistance Program (GAP) began in the basement of the First Baptist Church of Grandview as an outreach to the community. GAP was conceived by the local pastors and concerned citizens with the purpose of providing for the children and families of our community. There were churches and organizations that provided for the elderly, but there was no one that was addressing the needs of children and families. Many community leaders supported this endeavor for two reasons. First, funds that were being donated to another organization that promised help in this area were not being spent as promised. Secondly, many of the local pastors thought that it would be a good idea if there was a central agency to where they could refer people. This agency could screen the clients and provide the needed financial assistance required. With those thoughts in mind, GAP was formed in 1991. In 1992, GAP applied for United Way status and was accepted. GAP out grew the basement of First Baptist Church and moved into two rooms at Grandview High School. From there GAP moved into its own free standing building that is leased through the Grandview School District and is where we are currently located.
